If You Live in Northern Ontario...

(JK-4) or (5-8) or (9-12)

A taste of Northern Ontario - from the places on the back of the Ontario Road map come songs and stories about the realities of life in the north. North of North Bay one finds a different lifestyle than that lived by our Southern Neighbours. in this performance, (accompanying himself on guitar, banjo and dulcimer) Rodney weaves in songs and stories about ice fishing, black flies, shinny hockey, skidooing, curling, snow storms, and short sweet summers at camp. Rodney shares his experiences in isolated First Nations communities and he teaches the audience a song in Ojibway. Students are introduced to the legends of the Sleeping Giant, Green Mantle and Kakabeka Falls, the history of Silver Islet; and to places like Armstrong, Rocky Bay, Kama Bay, Agawa, and Pukaskwa.

Employing musical genres from Rock n' Roll to Reggae and Folk, this highly participatory performance is designed to entertain and educate students and staff alike.
